
At least 22 people were killed and more than 60 were injured as a result of a terrorist attack at the wedding of the daughter of a deputy of the Afghan parliament from the Samangan province, Interfax reports citing local police.
The suicide bomber undermined himself on Saturday morning at a reception at the Aibak hotel, the Samangan administrative center in northern Afghanistan.
Among the dead are the parliament deputy Ahmad Khan Samangani. "It was the wedding of the daughter of Samangani. The suicide bomber undermined himself, killing and injuring dozens of people," said the governor of the province of Heirulla Anosh. Among the victims there are a number of other government officials, ITAR-TASS notes.
According to eyewitnesses, dozens of people are in serious condition, the number of victims may increase.
Doctors and police officers work at the site of the tragedy.
Last month, the government of Afghanistan announced the beginning of the third phase of the transfer of control over security in the country from the international coalition to the local authorities. The full conclusion of NATO troops from the republic is scheduled for 2014.
