Tomsk resident Sergei Zaikov, who hit Tomsk Region Governor Viktor Kress in 2010, is petitioning for a review of the sentence, according to a message posted on the website of the region’s human rights ombudsman.
“Currently, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Tomsk is considering a petition from the convicted S. Zaikov with a request to change the category of the crime he committed from a more serious to a less serious one in accordance with the latest changes to the Criminal Code of Russia,” the press release says.
It is noted that ex-governor V. Kress also filed a petition in support of this mitigation.
