The Premier League nominated Sergei Prygkin to the post of head of the RFU

The Russian Football Premier League (Premier League) on Wednesday at an extraordinary general meeting nominated its head Sergei Prygkin to the post of head of the Russian Football Union (RFU).

“The general meeting ended, all the clubs unanimously supported the candidacy of Prygkin,” said Roman Babaev, CEO Roman Babaev. “There were no disagreements on this issue in an interview with RIA Novosti . The fact that all sixteen Russian clubs supported this candidacy, says a lot. Not so often we will meet a unanimous opinion on any matter.”

Pryadkin first announced that he would run for the post of President of the RFU, on Saturday on the air of Channel One during the break of the match for the Russian Super Cup, in which the St. Petersburg Zenit and Kazan Rubin met.

According to CSKA CEO, Prygkin achieved success as president of the Premier League, built the organization’s work system.

"Sergey Pryadkin is the person who has been working in Russian football for a long time, began his work in the RFU," Babaev said, emphasizing that football organizations in Russia "there is still something to work on."

Earlier, Igor Lebedev, Vice Speaker of the State Duma from the LDPR, announced his desire to compete for the post of President of the RFU, nominated the Football Federation of the Smolensk region.

The post of head of the RFU became vacant at the end of June, when Sergey Fursenko, who headed the organization since February 2010, announced his intention to resign after the unsuccessful performance of the Russian national team at the European Championship. The new president will be elected on September 3 at an extraordinary conference of the RFU.
