Venezuela will buy Su-35 fighters from Russia

Venezuela is interested in acquiring several Su-35 multi-purpose fighters from Russia. As RIA Novosti reports, referring to the national country, President Hugo Chavez said about it. "I have already sent a message to the Russian government that we are ready to evaluate the possibility of acquiring Su -35 fighters in the coming years to modernize and strengthen our defense power," he said.

According to the president, it is precisely the security, defense capability and development of the state that should be the main issues for the Venezuela government in terms of further ensuring national independence. "This independence - well -protected and guaranteed - will give us the opportunity to build a new Venezuela, a new homeland, to achieve new horizons," Chavez emphasized.

Russia is one of the main suppliers of weapons in Venezuela. According to the results of 2011, this country took first place among the importers of Russian land weapons in the ranking of the Center for Analysis of World Weapons Trade Analysis.

In particular, Venezuela acquired T-72B1 tanks, BMP-3M infantry fighting vehicles, BTR-80A armored personnel carriers, 152-mm self-propelled howitzers 2 MSTA-S, 120 mm self-propelled mortars 2C23 "Nona-SVK", 120-mm mortars of 2S12A 2S12A "Sani", 122-mm reactive systems of the 9K51 BM-21 "Grad", 23 mm anti-aircraft artillery installations ZU-23/30M1-4 and other equipment.

In mid-April, Russia completed the supply of Venezuela 92 main combat tanks T-72B1 under the 2009 contract, as well as BMP-3M infantry combat vehicles and BTR-80A armored personnel carriers, ammunition of various calibers, simulators for the preparation of personnel.
