Navalny: Bastrykin - Foreign Agent

The opposition figure and lawyer Alexei Navalny accused the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin of having a business from which he did not pay income tax to the Russian budget in the Czech Republic, and used fake documents to conceal these facts. In addition, Navalny pointed out that Bastrykin holds a position with access to state secret, having a residence permit in the Czech Republic - NATO member country.

"Back in 2008, the uninterior deputy Khinshtein published information that a senior civil servant Bastrykin is the owner of real estate in the Czech Republic and established a company there. Bastrykin then let the topic slurred then, for some reason, we decided to submit this topic," Navalny wrote in the article "On Real Foreign Agents" in his own blog.

As it turned out, all the information about the establishment of companies, property ownership and the status of citizens in the Czech Republic is public information, any person can request and receive it.

Navalny discovered that since 2000, Bastrykin was a co -owner of Law Bohemia. In 2001, he became a civil servant and, by law, was obliged to abandon private business. Nevertheless, Bastrykin, according to Navalny, refused the Law Bohemia management only in 2003, and transferred his share to another person only in 2008, after Hinstein's article came out. This information was published in the newspaper Prague Telegraph in July 2012. The newspaper also brought information about other Russian officials who have their business in the Czech Republic.

Previously, Navalny’s conflicts with Bastrykin had already occurred. On July 5, the criminal case against Alexei Navalny was transferred for investigation to the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee, said the official representative of the department Vladimir Markin. According to him, the case was originally investigated by investigators from the Kirov region and was terminated, then the decision was canceled and the case file was transferred to the investigating authorities of the Volga Federal District. "For an objective investigation, on behalf of the head of the TFR, Alexander Bastrykin, the case was transferred to the Main Directorate," Markin said.

Navalny himself said then that the transfer of the case to Moscow was explained by Bastrykin’s personal reaction to Navalny’s demands to institute criminal proceedings against him in connection with threats against the journalist of Novaya Gazeta, Sergei Sokolov. As Navalny said on the air of the Echo of Moscow radio station, he transferred the appeal to the Investigative Committee on July 3. "I think that Bastrykin got acquainted with our statements, decided to transfer the situation into a personal plane and began to put pressure on his subordinates," Navalny said.
