Ford announced the recall of 484.6 thousand Escape cars with a 3.0-liter V6 V6 engine of 2001-2004. Abroad, this model is known as Maverick. The cause of the recall was the Western gas pedal, due to which there is a risk of uncontrolled acceleration of the car.
According to the CARS.ru website, 421 thousand car withdrawn cars were sold in the United States and the National Directorate of Traffic Safety has already received 99 complaints about the malfunction of the gas pedal, including 13 messages about the accidents. Nine people were injured in the incident, a 17-year-old girl from Arizona died.
According to the Ford press secretary Marsi Zwibel, the problem with the stuck gas pedal arises due to the insufficient gap between the engine cover and the speed control cable. Because of this, the accelerator pedal can get stuck in a completely or almost completely pressed position. At the same time, the risk exists regardless of the use of cruise control.
Some of the 99 complaints came from the owners of the "double" Ford Escape - Mazda Tribute V6 of the same years of release. Most likely, these cars will also be withdrawn.
In 2007, Ford recalled almost 580 thousand Escape cars 2001-2004 due to 50 cases of engine fire as a result of a short circuit in the ABS system.
