At the same time, Kratov refused to answer the question of whether the Hermitage Capital employee was really tortured before his death. "I will say anything about the actions of employees of the regime service. Yes, and I can’t talk about what I was not witnessed. I am just a doctor," said the former deputy head of Butyrki. He said that on the body of the deceased he noticed fresh marks from handcuffs, abrasions on the phalanges of his fingers and bruises on the left lower leg.

“The conclusion in the walls of the pre -trial detention center is stress. In the last days, Magnitsky worked a lot, including at night - he was very fundamental and competent. So he was preparing for the courts. These days he was often taken to meetings. The health workers said that when he went to court early on the morning of November 12, he was absolutely sure that he would not happen, and he returned completely suppressed. He said that some documents submitted in the court were replaced by all this, of course, reflected in health, ”Kratov said.

The ex-head of the pre-trial detention center also suggested that “something serious” with Magnitsky did not happen in Butyrka, but in the “sailor silence”. Even when the lawyer was sitting in pre -trial detention center No. 99/1, he was assigned for examination to the hospital of "sailor silence." Based on the ultrasound, a diagnosis was made - pancreatitis and cholecystitis. Magnitsky was recommended to do the operation in a planned manner. Magnitsky claimed that he wrote several statements with a request to conduct an examination and treatment, but Kratov believes that all these statements were intended for the Strasbourg court. According to him, in his name and name of the head of the "Butyrka" these papers were not received. At the same time, according to RBC , there were about 10 such statements at the disposal of the Moscow Komsomolets publication, in one of which Magnitsky, due to the deterioration of well -being, asks him to be examined by the doctor.

The Tver court of Moscow begins to consider the criminal case of Kratov. The lieutenant colonel is accused under Part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (negligence, which entailed by negligence of the death of a person). According to investigators, Kratov improperly performed his duties to provide medical care to prisoners in jail. The result of this was the death of Magnitsky.

He was charged with committing crimes under Part 3.5 of Article 33, part 2 of Article 1999 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (organization and aiding in tax evasion from the organization of a group of persons by preliminary conspiracy on an especially large scale).

Magnitsky died in a pre -trial detention center in November 2009. His death caused a large public resonance in Russia and in the West. The Senator-Democrat from Maryland Benjamin Cardin, the author of the bill, according to which a number of Russian officials involved in the death of Magnitsky, will be prohibited from entering the United States.
