Photo: RIA Novosti The first sailors in Russia were honored in Vladivostok. 35 warships, auxiliary vessels and about 40 pieces of equipment staged a theatrical show in the waters of the Amur Bay. Most of the numbers shown by the sailors told about the history and international activities of the Pacific Fleet.
The highlight of the performance was the demonstration of military operations to free a ship captured by pirates, providing assistance to a damaged tanker and disembarking military equipment from a landing ship and the performance of hand-to-hand combat techniques by Marines.
In St. Petersburg, the holiday began with the formation of personnel and the raising of the St. Andrew's flag on the cruiser "Aurora", and continued with a parade in the Neva waters between the Blagoveshchensky and Palace bridges.
Since 1939, Navy Day has been celebrated annually on the last Sunday of July.
