The microblogging service Twitter has restored the account of The Independent's Los Angeles bureau chief Guy Adams, which was blocked after he published the email address of an NBC representative. In a blog post , Twitter apologized to Adams for the incident.

The journalist wrote several dozen messages on his microblog criticizing NBC's decision to show the Olympics in a recording. Adams' Twitter was shut down after he invited his readers to contact Gary Zenkel, the head of NBC Olympics, which is responsible for broadcasting the Olympics, directly, for which he left his email address.

Twitter explained to Adams that they blocked his microblog for violating the service’s rule prohibiting the publication of users’ personal data. However, the journalist noted that he published Zenkel’s corporate address, which had previously been published on the Internet.

In its blog, Twitter clarified that it cannot track whether a person uses his corporate email for personal purposes, so publishing any addresses is prohibited. At the same time, the service emphasized that it does not monitor user tweets, but only responds to complaints.

In the case of Adams, Twitter employees working on a joint Olympic special project with NBC informed channel representatives about the journalist's tweet that violated the rules and advised them to contact the service's support team. Moderators, unaware that Twitter employees had tipped NBC off to the attack, blocked Adams' account.

Twitter noted that such a development of events is unacceptable and undermines the trust of users, so it restored the journalist’s microblog and promised not to allow such situations in the future.

At the time of writing, more than 18 thousand users subscribed to Adams’ microblog.
