Negotiations are being held in Athens on Sunday, in which representatives of the “troika” of international creditors of Greece (European Commission, ECB and IMF) are participating. From the Greek side, Finance Minister Yiannis Stournaras is taking part in them. reports this RIA Novosti .

As a result of the meeting, it is expected that the items of expenditure for which Greece will have to save €11.5 billion or more than 5% of GDP over the next two years (in accordance with its obligations) will be finalized. Agreement in principle on the cuts was received a few days ago from the Greek ruling coalition under pressure from creditors.

According to Greek newspapers, creditors will insist on further raising the retirement age, setting a ceiling for pensions, “flat” reductions in pension payments, and finally, a complete refusal to pay the so-called 13th and 14th pensions. To meet creditor demands, Greece may need to cut social benefits and allowances and introduce a single reduced salary scale at state-owned businesses.

At the beginning of the coming week, Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras will hold consultations with his coalition partners, after which he will announce specific measures to reduce government spending.

Greece is once again facing the threat of default. By August 20, the country must fulfill the next portion of debt obligations, however, according to information from the press, there is no money in the state treasury for this. The only hope left is for another round of financing from creditors. However, the latter are in no hurry to save the country once again. They are making tough demands on the Greek government, insisting on additional cuts that may put the country back on track for fiscal stabilization. Due to pressure from creditors, the country's de facto government, formed in June, abandoned its demands to renegotiate the loan agreement with the troika on spending cuts and reforms in exchange for international financing.

Greece is discussing a plan to reduce government spending with creditors
