The first Syrian cosmonaut Muhammad Faris, a native of the city of Aleppo, stormed by government forces, fled from the country on August 5.

According to RBC , he went to Turkey, and before leaving Syria, he managed to declare the support of one of the armed opposition groups - the Syrian Free Army.

According to unconfirmed reports, the hero of the Syrian cosmos intended for a long time and even tried to commit it earlier. There were reports that this is the fourth attempt by the general to desert.

Muhammad Ahmed Faris (Arab. محuction أمد فار#; May 26, 1951, Aleppo, Syria)-Cosmonaut-Researcher of the Soyuz TM-3 spacecraft (Union TM-2) and the orbital research complex "Mir", the first astronaut of Syria.

From 1969 to 1973 he studied at the Air Academy of Syria at the Nayrab air base near the city of Khaleb (Aleppo). Since 1973, he served as a pilot and instructor at the Neuralbas air base.

At the end of September 1985, he was selected in Syria as one of the two candidates for astronauts. In October 1985 he arrived at the CPC. Gagarin for preparation and began it. In December 1986, he was appointed to the main crew.

From July 22 to 30, 1987, he made a space flight on the Soyuz TM-3 ship (landing on the Soyuz TM-2 ship). During the flight, he performed experiments on space medicine and material science, and also carried out the filming of Syria from space.

On July 30, 1987, the Soyuz TM-2 with the crew as part of Victorenko-Laweikin-Faris was delayed from the Mir station and on the same day made a successful landing.

After the space flight in 1987, he returned to the service of the Syria Air Force. In 2001, he headed the institute for training military pilots in Halebe (Aleppo).
