Platon Lebedev: New Hope?

The first petition of July 6, the Velsky court returned the defense of Platon Lebedev, referring to the absence of a number of necessary documents: there was not enough text of the sentence of the Meshchansky court and the cassation ruling of the Moscow city. On July 11, the businessman’s lawyers repeatedly sent a motion to mitigate the punishment of their client to the court, supplementing with all the necessary documents.

Protection requires the reduction of the ex-head of Menatep the term of imprisonment due to changes made in the Criminal Code in December 2011. These changes apply to those who are already serving a sentence, said PP Platon Lebedeva Alexey Miroshnichenko :

- Part 3 of Article 174, the punishment is almost doubled, from 15 to 7 years of imprisonment. In this regard, we went to court. One of the managers of Yukos Peverzin has already been released due to these changes. In general, in connection with them, many are produced in Russia. The only question is how much the deadline is reduced.

The former deputy director of the Yukos external debt directed for 11 years of imprisonment, Vladimir Pereverzin , recalls Miroshnichenko, was convicted of the same crimes that Plato Lebedev and Mikhail Khodorkovsky - theft in especially large sizes and the legalization of funds. He served in prison a seven -year term - the maximum punishment provided for in a changed article of the Criminal Code.

Plato Lebedev himself does not participate in the current process in Velsk, says his lawyer Alexei Miroshnichenko:

- The submission of a petition is the initiative of the side of the defense with which Lebedev agreed. He did not object, because this would not cause harm. He himself does not ask for anything from this power - this is his fundamental position.

A year ago, the Velsky District Court of the Arkhangelsk Region refused Lebedev in parole , citing the fact that "Lebedev has not yet reached the goals of the sentences of Moscow courts."

At the end of July this year, by the decision of the Supreme Court of Russia Vyacheslav Lebedev, supervisory proceedings were instituted on the complaint of the protection of Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev, which the Moscow City Court refused to consider. Thus, the chairman of the Supreme Court proposed to figure out whether the entrepreneurs were convicted twice for the same crime.

Platon Lebedev, along with the ex-head of Yukos, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, was sentenced by the Khamovnichesky court of Moscow to 14 years in the colony for the theft of 200 million tons of oil and laundering of money. Later, the Moscow City Court softened the punishment for one year. The ex-head of Menatep Platon Lebedev is serving a sentence in the colony of the city of Velsk, Arkhangelsk region.
