In Switzerland, they came up with an SMS-cheese for sheep protecting from wolves

Swiss biologists conducted a successful experiment to test electronic protective collars for sheep. The first batch of collars for testing will be released this fall, and large -scale testing will be held on the fields of Switzerland and France in 2013, Kaker.ru reports.

The collar measures the frequency of the animal's heartbeat, and if a wolf appears next to the herd, then the heart rhythm increases sharply from 60-80 to 225 beats per minute. The collar sends an SMS to a shepherd’s mobile phone with information about the incident, and a repellent that repels predators is released from special tanks of the collar.

Experiments showed that it is enough to equip about ten sheep in the herd electronic devices. Then the system with a low number of false works and the required concentration of repellent in the air are simultaneously ensured.

The new system is intended for small farms that cannot afford to buy a specially trained dog of dog. The cost of electronic sensors and modem is much lower, and mobile phones for receiving a signal is already available in almost all villagers.

The experiment has already been interested in some other countries of Europe, where wolves are still found, for example, in Norway.
