Peter Fomenko died

In Moscow, at the age of 80, theatrical director Petr Fomenko died, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the Moscow Department of Culture. For almost 20 years, Pyotr Fomenko was the artistic director of the theater-majority name, which he founded in 1993. Fomenko created more than 60 performances, many of which became laureates of various theater awards, including the "Crystal Turandot" and "Golden Mask". Last year, he received a “mask” for the play “Triptih”, and in this in the nomination “For an outstanding contribution to theatrical art”.

In 1993, Fomenko was awarded the title of People's Artist of Russia, and later he was alternately awarded the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" IV, III and II degrees (1996, 2003 and 2007, respectively).

Fomenko was born on July 13, 1932. In 1961, he graduated from the directing faculty of GITIS. From 1972 to 1981, he worked at the Leningrad Comedy Theater. Fomenko also served in the theaters named after Mayakovsky and Vakhtangov. In 1993, he created the theater "Workshop of Peter Fomenko", which headed before the day of his death.

Pyotr Fomenko staged performances in his theater, which invariably collected full halls - “One Absolutely Happy Village”, “Triptih”, “Three Sisters”, “War and Peace. The Beginning of the Roman”, “The Diva”, “Tales of the Arden Forest”.
