The Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow will announce the verdict of the world champion in mixed martial arts Rasul Mirzaev in the case of the death of 19-year-old student Ivan Agafonov.

During the debate between the parties, prosecutor Yulia Zotova asked the court to reclassify the charge against the defendant to a more lenient one - from intentionally causing grievous bodily harm to causing death by negligence. She justified the need to mitigate the charges with the conclusion of a medical examination, which did not reveal the existence of a cause-and-effect relationship between Mirzaev’s blow and Agafonov’s death. And also, according to the prosecutor, the absence of intentional infliction of grievous harm to Agafonov’s health is confirmed by the testimony of witnesses for the prosecution, including eyewitnesses of the incident and doctors of the hospital where the young man died. According to them, after the blow, Agafonov said that he felt fine and, despite the headache, moved independently and even refused to call an ambulance.

In turn, the victim's defense expressed outrage at the prosecutor's demand. The father of the deceased, Alexander Agafonov, stated that he “categorically disagrees with the mitigation of the article for his son’s killer.”

Master of sports in sambo and champion of Russia and the world in this sport, 26-year-old Rasul Mirzaev is charged under Part 4 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, resulting through negligence in the death of the victim,” which faces a penalty of up to 15 years in prison . According to investigators, it was his blow that caused the death of student Ivan Agafonov as a result of a conflict near a nightclub.

On August 15, 2011, at about 4 o’clock in the morning, after visiting the Garage club, due to sudden personal hostility, Mirzaev, “using professional skills and sports training, deliberately delivered one accented blow with his left hand to the area of ​​​​Agafonov’s face.” As a result, he fell, hitting his head on the asphalt. Already in the hospital, Agafonov fell into a coma and died three days later.

Several examinations were carried out in the case, which showed that the cause of death was a blow to the asphalt during a fall. The defendant pleaded not guilty.
