"How I spent August 91"

The interactive film PutschSelf is based on the personal memories of those who in August 1991 in one way or another participated in this event or were eyewitnesses to it. Among the heroes of the film are Shenderovich, Ryzhkov, documentarian Mansky, musician Letov, artists Gutov and Osmolovsky, journalists, engineers, carpenters and a host of other people of different ages and professions who were in different places of the country and the world in August 1991. All stories are united by the awareness of the importance of one of our national historical events, the eyewitnesses and participants of which are still alive, healthy and even young. The interactive film was prepared in the year of the 20th anniversary of the 1991 coup and was shown in January 2012 at Artplay as part of the exhibition “The Art of Memory”.

After being shown on Artplay and other places, the authors realized that the project was more than a ready-made interactive film. Now, on the basis of collected and recorded video stories, newsreels and photographs provided to us by their authors, as well as copies of paper documents of August 19-21, 1991, inherited from one of our heroes, we are turning the project into an “interactive web museum.” In the future, we will provide web museum visitors with the opportunity to record their own stories of those three August days using their own web cameras and thus, adding to the “Collection” of stories of the project, endlessly develop the museum. We will also provide the opportunity to upload personal photographs and newsreels to the museum.
