Former Governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romni is officially approved by a candidate from the Republican Party for the presidency of the United States. The congressman Paul Ryan is officially approved by the candidate for vice presidents of the United States. This decision was made by the delegates of the party’s congress in Florida.
Delegates from all 50 states participated in the vote on the candidacy of Romny. As soon as the applicant gained the necessary 1144 votes (a simple majority), the hall exploded with applause and began to chant his name, ITAR-TASS reports.
On the huge screens installed over the stage, photos of the candidate and his family appeared. According to the assistants, Romny himself watched the voting progress on TV from his hotel room.
Ryan’s vote was not held: he was nominated unanimously.
Now Romny must give his formal consent to run in this capacity at the upcoming universal elections on November 6. It is expected that he will do this on Thursday in the presence of tens of thousands of supporters in the sports arena of Tampa Bay Times Forum, where the congress takes place.
The speech in which Romny will outline his vision of the future of the country is designed to sound the final chord of the congress. A day earlier, Ryan declares to become a party candidate.
Romny’s rival in the November elections will be the current US President Barack Obama. He will be officially approved by a candidate from the Democratic Party at her congress, which will be held next week in the city of Charlotte (North Carolina).
Recent public opinion polls show that so far the chances of winning Obama and Romni are almost equal: 47% of voters are now ready to support the current president, his political enemy is 46%.
Paragraph about Russia
On Tuesday, August 28, the delegates also approved the party’s political platform, securing the formulations in it, closest to the position of Mitt Romny himself.
Five of the six parts of this document with a volume of 55 pages are devoted to issues of domestic policy and national security. Among the fixed provisions, in particular, there are such: the peoples of the USA and Russia "General imperatives: to put an end to terrorism, to counteract the spread of nuclear weapons, to promote the development of bilateral trade."
At the same time, despite the declared unity of goals and objectives, the Republicans believe that in order to further expand bilateral ties with the United States, the Russian government should refuse to "provide pressure on the opposition parties, the media and civil society institutions."
The Russian section of the platform has the size of the paragraph reflects anxiety "unprovable invasion of Georgia, entering into an alliance with tyrants in the Middle East and an aggressive policy towards neighbors."
At the same time, the Republicans reckon the Russian Federation to the opponents of the United States and mention Russia among other traditional rivals of the United States, along with the DPRK, Iran and China, RIA Novosti reports.
"The current administration is responsible for the weakening of the country, which is struggling with such threats as distribution and terrorism, in the conditions of the ongoing attempts by North Korea and Iran to receive nuclear weapons. The growing hegemony of China in Asia, the activity of Russia, the threat of cyberspiration and terrorism are also extremely dangerous," the program says.
"Having concluded the START-3 agreement .., having rejected the plans for creating bases in Poland and the Czech Republic, reducing the number of interceptors planned for accommodation in Alaska, reducing the budget, the administration significantly undermined the possibilities of the American missile defense ... President Barack Obama announced the intention to be" more flexible "in relations with Russia after the elections ... The president-republican, by the contrary, will be honest and frankly with frankly Americans regarding his policy and plans, ”the document says.
At the same time, the Republicans believe that Russia should provide the constant status of a normal US trading partner. "However, this should be accompanied by the introduction of sanctions against Russian officials convicted of violation of human rights. We support the adoption of the" Act of Magnitsky "as a condition for the expansion of trade relations with Russia," the document entitled "We believe in America."
"The Russian people have earned the best, and we hope for its full participation in modern democracy," the text of the party program says.
In parts of the platform dedicated to the domestic policy of the United States, the need to create jobs, provide support for the middle class, reduce the taxation of the corporation, reduce the astronomical budget deficit and ensure the country's energy independence.
The issues of the country's energy security in the document are given special attention. Thus, in order to achieve independence from oil import, Republicans propose to cancel the ban, introduced by the President of Barack Obama for the construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline between Canada and the American coast of the Gulf of Mexico.
Experts about the platform: "Extreme Conservative"
According to political observers, a feature of the platform is its extreme conservatism. So, among the requirements enshrined in it - the adoption of a law on the ban on abortion in the States.
The document records a tough position in relation to sex minorities: the only acceptable is the marriage concluded between a man and a woman.
The document contains a sharp criticism of the activities of President-Democrat Barack Obama, who, according to the Republicans, has not managed to get the country out of the global crisis, to curb unemployment and develop a clear plan for economic recovery.
According to the authors of the document, under the United States, they lost a leading position in the world.
By tradition, such documents are not considered mandatory for the execution by the candidate in case of his victory in the elections. Usually they reflect only general political attitudes, which the party leaders consider it profitable to identify during the pre -election struggle.
