100% of schools in the Vologda region are ready for the new academic year, the press service of the regional administration reports.
According to the administration, more than a thousand educational institutions will begin their work in the region on September 1, of which 496 are schools. In total, almost 120 thousand schoolchildren will sit at their desks, which is a thousand more than in 2011. For the first time, 13 thousand first-graders will cross the school threshold.
At the same time, the governor of the Vologda region Oleg Kuvshinnikov complained about the insufficient quality of the Internet in schools.
“At the last teachers’ meeting, I was surprised to learn that although all schools have Internet access, only 4% of schools have a reception speed exceeding 1 megabyte per second. This does not allow us to organize distance learning for children with disabilities who cannot complete the full cycle In addition, in some rural schools there are not enough subject specialists. They could also be replaced by distance learning technologies,” Kuvshinnikov noted.
He also called for special attention to be paid to the safety of schoolchildren. By order of the governor, an anti-terrorism commission must be held with all heads of districts and city districts by September 1.
“The first ten days of September are especially difficult in this regard. During the summer holidays, many children rested outside the city, unaccustomed to the busy traffic on city highways. All schools - roads and signs next to them - must be checked by the police. I believe that participation in raids on safety needs to involve both teachers and parents,” Kuvshinnikov said.
The head of the region also stated that it is inadmissible to teach children in three shifts.
“Schools should work in one shift, if necessary - in two. First of all, this is necessary in order to develop additional education: extracurricular activities, sports sections and clubs. Our children must develop as harmonious individuals,” Kuvshinnikov emphasized.
