Facebook plans to launch the targeting function for contact information on users - email addresses, phone numbers and user IDs, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the All Things Digital Technoblog.
The function will allow companies to build an audience on Facebook or increase the popularity of their applications on social networks, for example, "to look for customers who have not yet become subscribers of their pages." In addition, companies will be able to promote special offers and new products, as well as communities and customer loyalty programs.
At the same time, the largest social network of the world will demand from advertisers to request customer consent to the use of their contact information for targeting advertising on social networks before the start of the promotional campaign.
The fundamental point of targeting on contact information on Facebook will be that advertisers will not receive access to the social network database, but will be able to use only their own client databases of email addresses, telephone numbers and user IDs.
In turn, these data will enter Facebook in a coded form, and the social network will not receive direct access to personal data of advertisers.
For example, for targeting, the contact details that the user left when placing an order in an online store or buying a ticket online can be used.
The advertiser will transmit Facebook Heshi Client Contacts (encoded values that are stored in the database), and the social network, in turn, will compare them with the base of encoded user data. Thus, neither Facebook nor the advertiser receive open access to real personal data of customers or users.
