The story with Berezovsky’s claim against Abramovich began five years ago. As a result, the lawsuit immediately touched on three political eras. Berezovsky formulated claims in 2007, when Abramovich was still the governor of Chukotka. Formally, the process ended back in January 2012, but after several transfers, the sentence was announced only now.

Berezovsky argued that together with the now deceased Badri Patarkatsishvili owned 49% of the shares of the ORT television company, the rights of 43.5% of the Sibneft shares and the 25% of the Rusala shares. He tried to convince London’s high court that it was under the pressure of Abramovich that he was forced to sell in 2000-2004 a share in Sibneft and Rusale at a price, significantly lower than the market. For its share at Sibneft, Berezovsky received $ 1.3 billion, while in 2005 this company was bought by Gazprom for $ 13.1 billion. The losses from unprofitable deals allegedly imposed on him from the knowledge of Vladimir Putin, Berezovsky estimated almost $ 5.6 billion.

According to the plaintiff, Abramovich took advantage of the loss of Berezovsky’s influence in the Kremlin and his emigration to London to force promising assets cheaply. In court, Berezovsky directly stated that Abramovich, taking advantage of confidence, “threw” him. Abramovich built the defense that Berezovsky was never a legal co-owner of all these businesses and received payments only for the standard “roof” for Russia and the provision of lobbying services.

Just the noun “roof” seemed to the judge Gloucester more convincing than the verb “throw”. This sentence, of course, indirectly legalizes large private property in Russia. But he equally legalizes roofing and Kidalovo. You might think that one and another would suddenly disappear if some kind of court of some kind of London there had decided differently.
