A small study conducted by scientists from the University of Alabama showed that, regardless of the financial situation, young Americans live hand in hand with modern technologies. It is impossible to argue that all conclusions given in the work are absolutely true in any country in the world, but these are only the first steps in the study of the problem. A group of sociologists, led by a professor of social psychology, Rosanna Guadagno interviewed 237 college students and about 65 homeless young people. All participants in the study were a little older than 19 years. Most of the respondents in both groups admitted that they spend at least an hour a day on Facebook, Twitter or other social platforms. Among the students, 90% answered so, but the homeless did not go far - 75% use at least one social network.
“The results of the study force you to think about whether it is still appropriate to use the term“ digital gap ”when describing the differences in the use of technologies with a certain group. Polls showed that the gap has been significantly reduced, ”says the publication.
According to the authors of the work, the results should make people rethink the concept of “digital gap” between those who have constant Internet access and those who do not have it. Recently, everything has changed a lot, and scientists have been associated directly with the fact that the surveyed generation literally grew surrounded by these very technologies.
