Vladimir Kara-Murza: The current US President Barack Obama officially confirmed his participation in the elections of the head of state, which will be held on November 6. At the congress of the Democratic Party, he made a speech in which the words were heard: “Delegates, I accept your nomination for the presidency of the United States. I will not pretend that the road that I propose is simple and fast. ” In addition, Obama accused his opponent Republican Mitt Romnie of "inexperience and the desire to return to the era of sharp actions and errors." According to the American president, "a lot has been done by him and his team over the past four years." Obama noted that after a decade of decline in the country, over three and a half years, more than half a million jobs in industry were created. However, according to the recognition of the head of state, it is necessary to do much more.
About whether Barack Obama is able to repeat his success in 2008, we are talking today with Viktor Kremenyuk, Deputy Director of the Institute of the United States and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Pavel Khodorkovsky, President of the Institute of Modern Russia. How do you think with what results does Barack Obama come to the final of her first presidential term?
Victor Kremenyuk: Do you mean the balance of his successes and failures? You know, an obscure balance that has not decided. Because Obama began to dig deeply the problems of what to do with America, how to get it out of the current crisis, and the results not everyone affects. The results of some shares can now be observed, the results of other shares in a year or two will affect. Therefore, it is impossible to say that a continuous triumph is impossible, but there are no special failures.
Vladimir Kara-Murza: You were a guest of the Republican Congress in Florida. What are the Republicans of the Barack Obama election campaign are going to contrast?
Pavel Khodorkovsky: First of all, I would like to say about the main slogans of these two campaigns, because I believe that two key points are concentrated in them in different visions of the future of the US future of these two candidates. As you probably heard Barack Obama, his campaign in these elections, one simple word - forward. And the slogan Mitt Romny: Believe me in America or believe in America. The slogans of the two congresses were as follows: at the Republican Congress, the main message was - “We built it”, at the Congress of Democrats the main slogan was “progress for people”. I believe that, first of all, of course, the main rhetoric in the election race will be concentrated on unemployment and internal political situation in the United States, on economic progress. And from this point of view, of course, everything will depend, of course, on the numbers of unemployment and here, of course, a positive trend. I think that against this background, if this trend continues, the Republicans, unfortunately, will be not enough to contrast. Because Obama and his company acted as a crisis manager. As correctly, Viktor Alexandrovich said, most of the changes that were made are still invisible. But the latest data that have been received today, according to the reducing level of unemployment, allow us to say that the trend will continue. 96 thousand jobs were added in August, and this unemployment figure continued to decline since 2010. Therefore, I think, of course, there are few republicans here, what can be opposed.
But much more interesting, I think, different approaches to foreign policy. Of course, this will not be the main focus of the election race in the United States, but here the approaches are completely diametrically opposite. For example, if we compare the main messenger of the Democrats, then it could be concentrated in a few words, I would call this a policy of peaceful concessions in the hope of cooperation. The approach of Mitt Romni is to paraphrase the Reagan policy of the so -called world at the expense of power. There is a key difference in approach. I think that in many ways those voters who have not decided who they will vote, as you know, today the balance of forces is almost 46 - 47 percent between two candidates in favor of Obama, will be determined due to such border approaches.
Vladimir Kara-Murza: Andrei Piontkovsky, a leading researcher at the Institute of System Analysis, professor at the University of Gudzonov in Washington, expects an exciting struggle.
Andrey Piontkovsky: Today, Obama’s chances look preferable. It is very difficult to defeat the current president. Not because he has his own American Churov, and not because his opponents are deprived of access to television television channels, but because the president’s activity is precisely as the president, and not as a presidential candidate, is more illuminated by television, one of the media, and therefore he is more present on the screens and before the eyes of the audience. With such an even development of events and without any sensations or cataclysms, Obama wins. Romny’s only chance is his debate, they should meet three times. But Obama is an experienced speaker, demagogue, I am not putting any negative connotations into this word now, he is an experienced polemicist, and Romny will be very difficult. Therefore, if today I was asked to take a chance of my money and put me on one of the candidates, I would prefer to call the winner Obama.
