A group of demonstrators in the Yemeni capital Sana'a attacked the US Embassy building. When demonstrators tried to enter the embassy, security forces opened fire. According to a number of news agencies, there are wounded among the demonstrators.

TV Al-Arabiya reported that the fire was opened after demonstrators broke glass in the security building next to the embassy and tried to break through the main entrance to the consulate.

As reported by AFP , citing a representative of local security forces, Yemeni police shot dead one of the demonstrators, and five other protesters were injured.

During the attack on the consulate, demonstrators set fire to several cars with diplomatic license plates, tore down and burned the US flag and in its place hoisted a black banner with the inscription “There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his prophet.” In response, the police used water cannons and tear gas.

It was reported that employees of the American diplomatic mission were evacuated to a safe place.

The attack on the American embassy occurred as a result of the release in the United States and demonstration on the Internet of the film “The Innocence of Muslims,” which, according to Muslims, insults the Prophet Muhammad.

Yemeni President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi apologized to American President Barack Obama in connection with the attack on the embassy and ordered an investigation into the incident.

On Thursday, clashes between demonstrators and police also occurred in Egypt, where tear gas was used against protesters.

Earlier on September 11, about 2,000 Egyptians staged a protest, during which a group of demonstrators broke into the territory of the US Embassy, the demonstrators tore down the American flag and, just like later in Yemen, hoisted in its place a black banner with the inscription “There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his prophet."

An attack on the American consulate also occurred in Libya, where the US embassy in Benghazi was attacked with grenade launchers and burned down. The attack killed the US ambassador to Libya and three diplomatic mission employees.
