I’ll say right away and from the bottom of my heart - the authorities prepared for the rally perfectly, a straight A+. Sadovaya was securely blocked and filled with paddy wagons and buses, from which shields and boots of the “cosmonauts” stuck out. The police forces would be quite enough for a small victorious war and would still be left to maintain order in an average European state. But that's not all. A huge Hummer parked next to me on Sukharevka, from which a group of strong young people got out and busily headed towards Sakharov Avenue. Then I saw them and other similar comrades in the crowd.
But the opposition worked, alas, at best, a C grade. That is, the people gathered, wonderful as always, brought fresh and funny posters, but the speakers looked pale and secondary. Even Nemtsov’s fiery speech sounded somehow not incendiary; it was completely impossible to understand what and why the plump Bykov was saying there, and Gudkov Sr. simply caused irritation with his complaints about bad colleagues who deprived him of his fat Duma powers. One might think that not very rich people gathered on Sakharov Square solely to intercede for the former security officer and return his hefty parliamentary salary.
The speeches of the speakers were so uninteresting that parallel spontaneous rallies began to appear in the center of the square with their own speakers on topics that really worried the people - about education, etc. This is something new.
In general, all this only confirms the conclusion that all participants in my program “ In Search of Opposition ” came to - the real leaders of the protest movement are still emerging and maturing, which pleases and gives hope.
Well, as for the rally itself, the people, as I already said, were wonderful, here is a photo report , look, there are interesting pictures.
