In Halifax, Canada, the owner of a cat named Stan in a tuxedo (Tuxedo Stan) nominated his pet as a candidate for mayor of the city, Metro reports. Despite the fact that local laws prohibit animals from participating in elections in any capacity, the popularity of the black and white cat is growing day by day. On September 19, a cat support group came to listen to the mayoral candidates debate.

Stan's main goal in wearing a tuxedo is to draw the attention of Halifax residents to the situation with homeless animals. “In the opinion” of the cat, it is necessary to do everything possible to ensure that there are as few cats and cats that do not have their own home as possible. Stan in the Tuxedo's campaign program states that if he wins, he will guarantee all felines a tasty chicken treat and kitty litter in every home.

The candidate cat has quite a few fans. Thus, the page of the cat's party - "Tuxedo Party" - on Facebook received more than three and a half thousand likes. As CBC News points out, Halifax residents are well aware of Stan the Tuxedo Cat's program because "he's everywhere."

The Halifax mayoral election will take place on October 20.
