The President of Nauru came to Tskhinvali for the holiday

South Ossetia was first visited by Spren Jared Dabwido, the president of Nauru, the fourth country (after Russia, Venezuela and Nicaragua) to recognize the independence of the Transcaucasian republic on December 16, 2009.

Before him, of the heads of state who recognized the independence of the republic, only the then Russian President Dmitry Medvedev visited South Ossetia - in July 2009.

The President of Nauru came to South Ossetia to celebrate the 22nd anniversary of the Day of Proclamation of the Republic, which is celebrated on September 20. During the visit, a meeting was held with the President of the Republic Leonid Tibilov.

“We know how to value friendship and are confident that it will strengthen for the benefit of our peoples,” L. Tibilov emphasized during the meeting.

In turn, the President of Nauru thanked for the invitation to celebrate Republic Day: “Our people, just like you, value freedom and the opportunity to develop on their own. We were very pleased to receive an invitation to this holiday. Despite the great distance between us, we the same values."

The Republic of Nauru established diplomatic relations with the USSR in 1987. The island nation of Nauru is located in Oceania, between Australia and the Fiji Islands. The area of ​​Nauru is 21 sq. km, the population is 13 thousand inhabitants, the distance to South Ossetia is 13,000 km.

Spren Jared Dabwido, 40, has been Nauru's president since November 2011. On April 24, 2008, Nauru also recognized the independence of Kosovo.
