In the Moscow district of Mitino on Wednesday evening there was a protest against the construction of a mosque. Three protesters were detained and will be brought to administrative responsibility.

Three demonstrators detained on Wednesday in the Moscow district of Mitino during a protest against the construction of a mosque have been brought to administrative responsibility, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Moscow told Interfax .

“During the unauthorized rally that took place the day before in Mitino, three citizens were detained and brought to administrative responsibility under Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (“Violation of the rules for holding rallies and pickets”),” said a press service employee.

All detainees were released after drawing up reports; on Friday they are required to appear before the magistrate to determine the amount of the fine.

In early September, it became known that the Moscow authorities agreed to provide the Moscow Muftiate with a plot of land for the construction of an Islamic humanitarian center with a mosque.

A rally against the construction of a mosque took place on Wednesday evening in the Moscow district of Mitino, near house No. 47 on Pyatnitskoye Highway. More than 1,500 people came to the rally - residents of the area who did not agree with the construction of a new Islamic center, representatives of the municipal assembly and activists from the Union of Orthodox Banner Bearers organization. The event began at 19.30 - half an hour before the start announced by the organizers. The meeting was held under the control of police officers. At 21.00, law enforcement officers announced through a megaphone that the protest had not been approved and asked those gathered to disperse. Three people were detained and taken to the police.
