From October 24, 2012 to April 29, 2013, the famous painting by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch "The Scream" will be exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The painting, which has been in a private collection for several decades and has not been exhibited anywhere, will be placed in the first gallery on the fifth floor along with prints by Munch created during the same period (1893-1910). "The Scream" will be exhibited with the consent of the new owner - the famous American financier and collector Leon Black, who purchased the painting in May 2012 at Sotheby's auction for $120 million. At this auction, Munch's famous work became the most expensive lot in the history of auctions, dedicated to impressionism and modernism.

The pastel painting, which will be exhibited in New York, is one of four works in a series painted by Munch on the same subject. Three other "Screams" are kept in museums in Norway. On the frame of the “New York” painting there is an inscription made by Munch himself. These are lines from the diary of an artist who wrote about a walk with friends, during which he “felt the great Scream of Nature.”
