The international scandal around the film "Innocence of Muslims" was an unexpected continuation in Russia. On September 17, the Russian Prosecutor General of Russia made a statement that the film is extremist, and appealed to the court with a request to ban its distribution in the territory of the Russian Federation. At the same time, in the Volgograd, Amur, Omsk, Leningrad, Rostov regions, as well as in Udmurtia, Karachay-Cherkessia, Primorye, Komi Republic and some other regions, law enforcement agencies ordered Internet providers to limit access to the film. The only way to fulfill this requirement is to block the YouTube service on which the film is posted. Following the “security forces”, the head of the Ministry of Communications Nikolai Nikiforov spoke on this occasion: if the court forbids this film, and Google will not remove it from its servers, then, yes, access to the international and popular resource will be closed. To the joy of officials, on November 1, a register of prohibited sites will be launched, where Youtube video hosting can take its place in the near future. According to the recently adopted by the State Duma, amendments to protect children, the authorities can block access to any resource on which the prohibited material was placed without a court decision. Thus, Russia will stand on a par with Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Egypt, Libya, India and Indonesia, where access to YouTube is already closed.
