Grachev died of meningoencephalitis

Ex-Minister of Defense, 64-year-old General Pavel Grachev died of acute meningoencephalitis, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the official data of the Russian Ministry of Defense. Earlier it was reported that Grachev died due to stroke and poisoning with mushrooms .

Grachev will be buried on Tuesday at the Novodevichy cemetery of Moscow. The civilian farewell ceremony will take place from 11:00 to 13:00 in the cultural center of the Russian army at Suvorovskaya Square, house 2.

Recall that Grachev died on September 23 in the 3rd Central Military Clinical Hospital named after Vishnevsky. Now doctors are studying, which caused inflammation of the brain - a bacterial or viral infection.

Pavel Grachev fought in Afghanistan, where he commanded the Airborne Forces unit. He received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. In 1991, he supported the State Emergency Committee, but then crossed the side of the first president of Russia Boris Yeltsin. Under him, he was the Minister of Defense from 1992 to 1996. After the criticism collapsed on him, because of the failure of the Chechen campaign, he had to leave his post.
