Journalists from Novaya Gazeta, the American weekly Barron's and the international research association OCCRP continue to study the intricate ways of moving budget funds from the Russian treasury to the banks and offshore companies of those countries where our security forces and government officials expect to ensure a comfortable old age for themselves:
The Ministry of Internal Affairs flatly refuses to look for this money, citing the fact that all the documents were “burnt.” But, as we see, some of the bank transactions survived. And over the course of a year of journalistic investigation, it was possible to track the movement of $135 million from those budget funds, the theft of which the late Sergei Magnitsky unsuccessfully tried to prevent.
