Exactly 500 days before the opening of the Olympic Games in Sochi, the slogan of the Games was presented: “Hot. Winter. Yours." The slogan “reflects the national character of Russia, the values of the Sochi 2014 brand, as well as the progressiveness and innovative approach to organizing and holding the Games,” says a message published on Tuesday on the website of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee.

The authors of the slogan explain that the word “Hot” reflects the intensity of wrestling and spectator passions and indicates the location of the Games - the southern resort city of Sochi. The word "Winter." speaks about the timing of the Games and reflects the traditional perception of Russia in the eyes of the whole world.

And finally, the word “Yours.” symbolizes involvement and reduction of distances to sometimes very distant events, suggests that the Games are a large-scale complex project, which, nevertheless, will allow everyone to rejoice in victories, feel pride and empathy.

The dot after each word in the slogan also has its own meaning - it “draws a parallel with high technology (.ru) and the emblem of the Winter Games in Sochi.

According to the President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, Dmitry Chernyshenko, the slogan turned out to be very personal, close to everyone, it says that “you can’t help but participate, you can’t help but watch, you can’t help but worry, and you should be proud because these are our Games.”

The organizing committee of each Olympics tries to choose slogans that reflect the spirit of the games. The slogan chosen for this year's London Olympics is "Inspiring a Generation". At the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, a line from the Canadian anthem, “With Burning Hearts,” was used. The slogan of Beijing (summer 2008) is “One world - one dream”, Turin (winter 2006) is “Passion lives here”, Athens (summer 2004) is “Welcome home”.
