
The Japanese company Hitachi showed the prototype of the experimental data storage system in digital form, using a square glass with an area of 2 square meters as a carrier. cm and 2 mm thick, which can be recorded up to 40 megabytes of information.
According to the developers, the new storage technology allows you to save information in the original form of "hundreds of millions of years", and in recounting the recording density for a square inch novelty is practically equal to the usual CD indicator, reports Cybersecurity.ru .
According to the representative of Hitachi, the new system records data, warming up the quartz glass with a thin laser up to 1 thousand degrees for two hours, after which neither radiation, nor water, nor most chemicals are terrible, and the recorded data can be read even after hundreds of millions of years.
Data is recorded in binary format using the so -called laser points located in quartz glass in four layers. Engineers say that additional layers can also be added to the glass without problems, increasing the record density.
The Japanese company decided to develop a new data storage system, since today there are almost no solutions that can save information at least a couple of generations in advance, it has to be rewritten to newer media. Modern CDs and film systems can store data at best for several decades, and in most cases they cannot store data for more than a decade. The quartz glass will store data until it is physically destroyed.
Another advantage of new development is the data recording method. It is a simple binary sequence, which can be considered not only with the help of special equipment, but also with a conventional microscope.
