Several mortar shells released from Syria exploded in Israel, there are no injured, Newsru Israel reports.
According to the Israeli Zman news agency, most of the shells fell on the territory of agricultural landings, damaging them. One of the shells exploded on the territory of one of the Israeli villages in the north of the Golan heights.
The army began investigating the incident. Sapers and experts of the IDF arrived at the site of the fall of shells.
According to Newsru Israel, this is the first case of shelling Israel from Syrian territory over many years. So far, no group has taken responsibility for shelling.
As the military noted, presumably, "this is not about intentional shelling" controlled by Israel. Perhaps this is "a consequence of the escalation of clashes between the Syrian government forces and rebels." As ITAR-TASS reports, just in case, the servicemen began combing the adjacent territories.
MIGNEWS notes that this is not the first such case: earlier shells have already entered the territory of Israel during the fighting of the Syrian opposition with a regular army. So, last time, shells fell on Syrian territory, not reaching the border of a few meters.
"Israel fears that the ongoing (in Syria) skirmishes can also spread to the Golan heights, in this regard, the army intently observes the development of events in the SAR," the UAI -NOS news agency writes.
Last week, the Israeli military conducted planned, but not declared in advance, the exercises designed to check the readiness of army units for various scenarios of the development of events.
