Director Evgeny Kamenkovich at the general meeting of the troupe of the Peter Fomenko Workshop on Monday was elected to the post of artistic director, but his candidacy has not yet been approved by the Moscow Culture Department, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the head of the theater, Maria Kozyar.

"Yesterday, this decision was made at the general meeting of the troupe. The relevant papers will most likely be sent to the department today," Kozyar said.

Kamenkovich staged performances in the "Workshop of Peter Fomenko" for many years.

The director told the agency that he would not give any comments before the official decision of the department.

The Department of Culture said that so far no documents were received from the theater.

The founder and permanent leader of the "workshop" Peter Fomenko died on August 9 this year. The head of the capital’s department of culture, Sergei Kapkov, then promised the theater troupe that in the next three months no personnel decisions would be made.

At the official collection of the troupe, which took place on September 3, the leadership of the "workshop" promised that the new artistic director would be elected after Sorokovin Fomenko. In turn, the head of the Moscow Culture Department, Sergei Kapkov, gave the team the opportunity to choose a artistic director on his own.

Shortly before his election, Yevgeny Kamenkovich gave an interview to Izvestia newspaper, in which he spoke about the upcoming plans of the theater:

“The young people are very respected by senior comrades, but often do more risky things. For example, I like to take up prose, but Mandelstam would not have taken up the“ Egyptian brand ”in my life. But Peter Naumovich prompted them, and they started ... We already saw the first 25 minutes, and Pyotr Naumovich managed, blessed the production. I don’t know if they would run to the end.

I always said that if this theater runs something, then only the desire for perfection. Maybe we all need to read less. But it is not for nothing that Oleg Glushkov now puts a plastic performance. And, of course, I do not want to touch a single Fomenovsky performance. I think this will be our most terrible problem. We understand everything if we do not develop, what will happen to us? It is probably wrong if we have some kind of "Swan Lake"
