Especially for this, the legislation was corrected, and now Ivanishvili may vote without being a citizen of Georgia.

"Our position has not changed. Bidzina Ivanishvili does not intend to take advantage of constitutional changes and use the right to vote in the elections granted to him," the Mayan Pangidze coalition press -speaker reported on Sunday, Interfax reports.

At the same time, she noted that the leader of the “Georgian Dream” will come to the polling station in the Sololak district of Tbilisi tomorrow, "but only with the wife, who will vote in the elections."

Ivanishvili was deprived of the citizenship of Georgia a few days after he officially declared the coming to politics. The Ministry of Justice of Georgia explained this by the fact that Ivanishvili was a citizen of France, and in accordance with the current legislation, the adoption by a citizen of Georgia of another country leads to a loss of citizenship of the republic.

According to the changes introduced on May 22, 2012 to the relevant article of the Georgian Constitution, "before January 1, 2014, the right to participate in the parliamentary and presidential elections and voting with Georgian citizens have persons of the relevant age who have been born and have been constantly living in Georgia over the past 5 years and at the time of this article have the citizenship of the European Union."
