FSB general to be tried for extremism

They demanded 10,000 rubles from the head of the FSB Directorate for the Rostov Region, Major General Pavel Solodkov. It is this amount that is indicated in the statement of claim filed on October 1 to the Leninsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don. It is also necessary to refute his statement that the movement “For Fair Elections” is extremist .

The reason for such a bold act was the recent statement by the main fighter against dissent that the slogan and movement “For Fair Elections” is extremist. The statement of claim states that on September 24, 2012, at a meeting of the Coordination Council for Ensuring Law and Order in the Rostov Region, the head of the Directorate of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Rostov Region (hereinafter referred to as the FSB RO) Pavel Evgenievich Solodkov, by means of a semantic link, called the movement “For Fair Elections” political extremism and activists and supporters of non-systemic opposition. According to Solodkov , “...Attempts to involve young people in protest activities in the political sphere are becoming increasingly large-scale. For these purposes, problems of both socio-economic and interethnic relations are used. Destructive forces are trying to redirect the protest potential of young people to the political sphere. Evidence of this is the increasingly large-scale participation of young people in mass protest rallies under the slogan “For fair elections.” Ideas about a change of power are being spread on social networks to solve social problems. In order to prevent young people from engaging in illegal, and therefore anti-constitutional, activities, the department, together with the relevant ministries and the regional government, is working to discredit the ideological actions of extremist structures, and to prevent the consolidation of nationalist structures and non-systemic opposition...”

Vladislav Ryazantsev, the plaintiff of this statement, stated that “... this statement by P.E. Solodkov is the dissemination of information discrediting the honor, dignity and business reputation of me as the organizer of a number of actions “For Fair Elections!” and a social group of citizens who have a negative attitude towards violations of the law in the election process.”

Many participants in the “For Fair Elections” rallies questioned Pasha Solodkov’s statement, since only a court can recognize any slogan or movement as extremist, and there has been no court decision. On the contrary, the organizers and participants of this movement strongly emphasized the exceptional peacefulness and constitutionality of their actions. This was proven by both the Marches of Millions and rallies throughout Russia.

Accordingly, the statement that activists and supporters of the movement “For Fair Elections” “involve young people in illegal, and therefore anti-constitutional, activities” and, as follows from the semantic link, are an “extremist structure” is false. Based on these words, it is Solodkov who can be characterized as a person who is shaking the foundations of the constitutional order and leading to the undermining of the population’s trust in the security forces. It was the latest actions of our unfortunate fighters against dissent that clearly showed who is really shaking the statehood of Russia, and who respects the Constitution.

As noted by civil activist Alena Rudko, the Citizen Observer movement, as well as the administrators of the Rostov_against_2 group, consider Solodkov’s statement as slander and extremism and also plan to file lawsuits against him.

In five days we will find out whether Ryazantsev’s application is accepted for consideration by the court or will be returned to the applicant. In any case, this step is an extremely courageous and right thing to do. An act that could undermine the existence of an anti-people regime.
