When Zviadi came to power, he looked around and saw that Tbilisi was a big city. A very big city, too big for small Georgia - not in size, so he decided to make Tbilisi about three times smaller: let the foreigners who were overcrowded go to their homes, and the Georgians go to the village to work on the land, because it is known that there is nothing It is more important and worthy for a Georgian to actively care for his native land. Only after this did the people of Tbilisi stop loving Zviad, so much so that they did not wait for the next elections, they collected machine guns somewhere, and now he is no longer a leader and president. Those who stopped loving him were the very ones who recently filled the squares and streets to see and hear him, who stood in lines heated with hope and delight to cast their vote for the First President of Independent Georgia.
The old fox Edik, who replaced him, just wanted to live, that is, to be a boss until the end of his days, and did not bother the people of Tbilisi: let them live here freely without food, water, heat and light, or not live here freely either. However, they survived this too: they retreated with one foot to the village or even to Russia, but only with one foot, leaving the other to return as soon as possible.
They endured, but did not forgive, and were the ones who created the “Rose Revolution”. Many returned afterwards, maybe not yet for good, but they returned, believing the elegant, charming new president in his almost youthful audacity, brought into office by this very revolution. Yes, yes, they believed that very soon Tbilisi would become the financial and business capital on the border of the worlds of the West and the East.
That business people from everywhere will meet here, and money will pour in from them and turn into the glitter and radiance of the world-famous city of Georgians - Tbilisi. To do this, of course, the city must first work hard to have the appearance familiar to such people and a very warm business climate.
And the city preened its feathers, shone with lights, regulated the business climate according to the most advanced standards and began to wait, wait for the influx of business sharks, the arrival of the most important and rich birds of the business world, which must certainly be here, cannot but be.
Only they sailed and flew past - to the now familiar Emirates or at least Istanbul. No, some still flew in to make sure that Zviad was right: Georgia is a proud but small country, and Tbilisi is its capital. What should big business do here?
Nothing. The neck was washed, the laces were stroked, but the guests did not swim, did not drive, did not fly. No, the people of Tbilisi did not want to continue living a humble life waiting for Godot and asked the charming and attractive Mishiko to go out with his things. So they decided, and Georgia followed them and could not do otherwise - after all, Tbilisi is too big a city.
What's next? They have now invited their own person to rule from the very same ones they were waiting for, but what next? Due to his experience, he was the first, apparently, to understand that becoming another nesting place for the rich, the local Dubai, did not happen and will not happen. Sochi, who has more hopes, is being pushed into this role. To become Frankfurt, there must be the wealth of Germany behind it, Dubai - the oil East, Hong Kong - China, Sochi has some kind of behind it, but Russia, Tbilisi has only Georgia for now. It won't be enough.
However, another, more important place remains empty there - a place for a city where peoples, cultures, and just any people meet. All the cities on both sides of the Caucasus are too provincial for such a mission. They can’t, but Tbilisi “can” or “can” – it’s all the same. That’s why he was like this more than once in his history, or rather, he was in exactly this role most often. True, it has now almost become a city of Georgians and for Georgians, the capital of Georgia only, not even the capital of the Caucasus. If this is irreversible, then Zviad is right - in such a role he is too big for Georgia and will inevitably begin to shrink so as not to crush it, not to flatten it.
But for now, Tbilisi decides for its own destiny, and no one can tell it, including other Georgians. So far no one has decree. And if he decides to become such a place - a place in Georgia for the whole world - the rest of Georgia will not be able to, and perhaps will not want to, stop him. She will have to take him into account and get along with him, because Tbilisi is still too big a city for her. And everyone will have to get along with it, because Tbilisi is indeed a very big city.
