I’ll summarize what I saw, read, and explained by my friends, for which I thank them. Here without links, but with gratitude some situational summa georgica
Bidzina had no goal of taking power. It is intended solely for provocation. The Kremlin projected onto Saakashvili its own model of behavior in such a situation and, apparently, completely ruled out the option chosen by the Georgian president. In a very short time, the confused Bidzina has already made several provocative statements: about the need to remove the current president and about the Armenian diaspora. But it is not this that deserves special attention, but the demand of human rights activists to organize a “Nuremberg trial” of Saakashvili. The trial of predecessors is the first sign of the collapse of democracy. This is shown by the example of Ukraine.
In Moscow they also don’t understand what’s happening. The screening of “Anatomy of Protest-2” with the subsequent initiation of a criminal case against Udaltsov under the updated article on treason clearly fit into the anti-Georgian campaign. The accusations against Georgia should have become the same casus belli as Bidzina’s provocations. The longer Saakashvili and his supporters pause, the more confused the Kremlin looks, whose calculations, in principle, do not include the possibility of a peaceful democratic change of power in other countries.
The Kremlin's only goal is to eliminate Georgian statehood. Putin's motives are irrational, but not due to his personal qualities. and those. what underlies Russian identity. Rational arguments in favor of the peaceful subjugation of Georgia are not taken into account, although they exist. This is the economic presence of Russian campaigns in Georgia, and the possibility of Bidzina’s gradual transformation into a politician, verbally advocating international guarantees of Georgian sovereignty, for the liberation of occupied territories, but gradually subordinating Georgia to the Kremlin. However, this is a delicate and long-term game with many participants, including the opposition. Therefore, again everything comes down to its suppression. perhaps with the involvement of Russia.
Public normalization of Russia's relations with Georgia is impossible without the latter's recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
In general, it’s very interesting. It's like Huey Long becoming President of the United States. Something similar has been happening in the last decade in some Latin American countries, but populists with a nationalist component are winning there. One can even talk about a new Latin American nationalism.
Bidzina... Well, it’s as if in some not the poorest and weakest Latin American country a populist came to power, promising that he would put the American economy at the service of his people. Agree, this is much cooler than stupid anti-Americanism. This is a claim to impose tribute on the United States.
It seems that Bidzina promised something similar. That is, this is how voters, apparently, understood him.
The funny thing is that he can do it. The only question is the price for Georgian statehood and what is connected with it.
