Few people know that not only Barack Obama and Mitt Romni fight for the presidential place in the United States. In addition to them, there are four more registered candidates - Jill Stein from the Green Party, Gary Johnson from the Libertarian Party, Virgil Hood from the Constitution party and the non -partisan writer Randall Terry , who has the main point of the biography - “arrested about 50 times”. On the example of a candidate from the Green Party, Jill Stein Publicpost sorted out why Obama and Romny rivals and Romni would never win.
About Jill Stein, the journalists of The New York Times joke that when she says “I am ran for presidents”, they ask her: “Which country is president?” Stein is 62 years old, she is a Harvard graduate, therapist, and in the recent past, the leader of the country-Rock of the “Somebody's Sister” group.
14 years ago, the therapist Jill Stein abandoned medicine and became an actor when she realized that there were too many toxins, and the politicians had no business. In 2002, she went into big politics - she unsuccessfully ran for Governors of Massachusetts (her rival was the winner in those elections of Mitt Romny). In 2004, she unsuccessfully ran to the lower house of parliament, in the same year she unsuccessfully tried to become a Secretary of State, in 2010 she again unsuccessfully ran for Governors of Massachusetts. In that race, she was the only candidate who advocated the legalization of marijuana. Although the presidential election remains for a whole month, today we can confidently say: Stein will not win in these elections. She herself knows about it - Stein says that she does not nourish the big illusions about her victory.
There are several reasons why an independent candidate has no chance of winning the US president. Firstly, if the candidate does not belong to any of the two main parties in the United States, he does not have necessary to participate in party infrastructure races, widespread throughout the country. There is no developed network of regional headquarters, there is no network of volunteers, and accordingly there is no way to quickly and effectively collect a sufficient amount of money for the election campaign. Stein has so far been able to raise only $ 398 thousand (for comparison, Barack Obama raised $ 432 million, and Mitt Romny - $ 279 million). Stein, for example, had enough money for only one advertising video - “enough”. But it was no longer enough that to let this video in all states.
It easily compensates for the absence of money with free PR. For example, this summer I was behind bars for 24 hours for participating in a protest against delaying real estate from those who cannot pay off the bills. Such antics help Stein not only in jail, but also on the pages of leading American media. “The most daring are on the floor in front of the toilet,” she said in an interview with Newsweek after it was released, “all the food consisted of white bread and fluent cheese. It was one of the most powerful impressions in my life. I think such experience should become mandatory for every official”
The main trump card Stein, in her own opinion, is to play that the Americans are very disappointed in large politicians at the time of the economic decline in the country: “The economy will never be corrected until the predators are ruled in the chicken coop”, “We need such people in Washington, who are bought by lobbyists. For whom“ changes ”are not just a slogan”. Having not received an invitation to the television debate of presidential candidates, she immediately criticized both Romny and Obama for not knowing to answer questions correctly. True, in response to America, it itself can only offer “change of climatic conditions” and “end of the oil wars”. Such changes should, according to its estimates, bring to the country 25 million jobs.
But on criticizing the two main candidates, Stein is far from gone. According to surveys regularly conducted in the United States, about 40% of American citizens are convinced democrats, about 40% are convinced Republicans. They will vote for any candidate appointed by the presidential candidate at the party congress.
The American electoral system also does not play in Stein's hands. Most states have a majority system in which all the votes of the electors go for the candidate who gained the most votes ( more about the electoral system ). So, you can gain a lot of votes of voters, and not a single voting of the elector. In addition, Stein managed to register his candidacy in only 38 states (there are 50 states in the United States and one Federal District of Colombia).
According to CNN polls, in this race it will receive 2% of the votes of Americans. The authoritative research institute Gallup considers it so passable that he even refuses to include it in his polls. But activist Stein does not give up - she asks all her supporters to throw Gallup employees with twitt: “Hey! Do not be biased!”
