Lukasz Chmel, General Director of Chladici veze Praha (Czech Republic):
Five years ago, the Czech Republic made a strategic decision to build new units at the Temelín nuclear power plant. The issue of expanding the Dukovany NPP is currently being discussed, but this is a matter for the future.
For the Czech Republic, nuclear energy is the cheapest source of electricity. In addition, it is the most stable source. When alternative energy began to be introduced, big problems arose with the supply of electricity in the Czech Republic. And, in addition, we now buy electricity abroad - in Northern Germany. These are the main reasons why the Czech Republic decided to increase its electricity production. This is precisely why the 40 MW Pocherady combined cycle gas station was built - to compensate for peak consumption. And Temelin is needed as the basis for the production of electricity in the base. Dukovany NPP is the cheapest source of electricity, electricity from it is the cheapest and safest.
The Czech Republic is the cradle of nuclear energy in Europe. The main industry for this sector is located here - from the production of steam generators to fittings and design of cooling towers.
