Loss of the Vagankovsky cemetery

"Reconstruction and improvement" carried out at the famous Moscow Vagankovsky cemetery led to the destruction of its historical fence. According to the reporters of the Archnadzor from the scene, on one day, October 11, 2012, an old cemetery fence of the XIX century with forged lattices was demolished for more than 200 meters along 1905 Street. Today, on the site of the fence - a ditch in the ground and the wreckage of the pillars. Probably, the fence of the Vagankovsky cemetery, which does not have the status of a comprehensive object of cultural heritage, will be replaced by the next "retaining".

Through the street, in the Armenian Vagankovsky cemetery, there is an identified cultural heritage object-the burial of the famous Moscow entrepreneur and philanthropist Nikolai Tarasov (1882-1910), a member of the Directorate of the Moscow Art Theater and one of the creators of the theater-cabaret "Bat". His sculptural tombstone was performed according to the project of the famous sculptor of the early twentieth century Nikolai Andreev (later it was lost and recently recreated); According to Andreev’s drawings in Venice, a unique forged burial fence was also made. Her openwork lattices with images of angels, paradise gardens, fairy -tale animals, birds, trees are a wonderful example of Russian art of the Silver Age. Until recently, the fence was in satisfactory condition. Today it is on the verge of death: more than half of its links are fallen, some are completely absent or lying on the ground in the form of separate rusty fragments.

Archnadzor calls on the Moscow government and the Department of Cultural Heritage to stop vandalism in the Vagankovsky and Armenian cemeteries and hold guilty.
