The son of the ex-president of Kyrgyzstan, Maxim Bakiev, was arrested in London

The youngest son of the former president of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiev was arrested in London, Interfax reports the press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan.

The arrest of Maxim Bakiev took place on the morning of October 12 by law enforcement agencies of Great Britain. The relevant requests were previously received from the Kyrgyz and American sides.

There is no agreement on extradition between Kyrgyzstan and Great Britain, and, according to a diplomatic agreement, the US authorities issued a request for expulsion of Maxim Bakiev. Currently, the British side is considered such an opportunity.

In Kyrgyzstan, the son of the ex-president of the country is accused of committing a number of serious crimes in the field of economics and corruption. In May 2010, the new Kyrgyz authorities put him on an international wanted list through Interpol. The former deputy head of the State Guard Service Nurlanbek Temirbaev was also put on the wanted list. Soon, information appeared that the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office to Maxim Bakiev was received by the police of Latvia. It was argued that the son of the overthrown president of Kyrgyzstan is in this country, where he belongs to several enterprises. On June 12, 2010, Maxim Bakiev was detained by British border guards at Farnborough airport. A few days later he asked for political asylum in the UK.

On April 15, 2010, the overthrown President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiev left the country-with the help of international intermediaries, he, along with his family (wife and two children), flew out on a military aircraft to Kazakhstan from the Jalal-Abad region, where he was hiding after the capture of the opposition. Literally before this, Bakiev officially resigned - this was the condition of Kazakhstan as the chairman of the OSCE and the intermediary in negotiations to resolve the situation in Kyrgyzstan.
