Residents of the Amur Region elect a governor
In the Amur region on Sunday at 08.00 local time (02.00 Moscow time) 782 polling stations opened, residents of the region will have to elect a governor.
Four candidates are vying for the post of head of the region - the current governor Oleg Kozhemyako, nominated by United Russia, State Duma deputy Ivan Abramov (LDPR) and deputies of the regional legislative assembly Roman Kobyzov (Communist Party of the Russian Federation) and Dmitry Zharovsky (A Just Russia).
The last time residents elected the head of the region’s executive power was 11 years ago.
The current governor has been in office since 2008. His term of office expires in October 2012.
To win in the first round, a candidate must receive at least half of the votes of voters who took part in the elections.
