Mariinsky ballet will present in Washington the "Cinderella" of Ratmansky

The ballet troupe of the Mariinsky Theater begins a series of performances in Washington, this time the Petersburgers brought Cinderella to the American capital, RIA Novosti reports.

Tours Mariinsky on the stage of the John Kennedy Center for Fine Arts will last until October 21. “We are looking forward to the seven ideas of Cinderella by Alexei Ratmansky performed by the artists of the Mariinsky Theater,” Kaiser said, recalling that recently Mariinka and Kennedy Center agreed to extend the contract for another ten years.

Mariinki's performances are enormous in the American capital: tickets are sold before the start of the tour, and enthusiastic reviews in the Washington publications have long become a tradition.

“This version of the Cinderella is modernized. Ideas for costumes are taken from the 1920s, the heroes of the fairy tale wear mini-skirts and tuxedos ... Alexei Ratmansky approached the choreography with humor: it is especially noticeable in scenes with the participation of the sisters of Cinderella and her stepmother,” the representative of the press service of Kennedy Center Amander Handher told the agency.

The premiere of this production of ballet to the music of Sergei Prokofiev took place on March 2, 2005. To accompany artists in Washington, according to tradition, will be the Kennedy Center orchestra.

As part of the contract between Kennedy Center and Mariinka, the Russian theater annually brings the most outstanding ballets to Washington. Last season, for example, it was a “sleeping beauty” and the “Russian Seasons” program, which includes the three famous ballets of the Russian choreographer Mikhail Fokin: “Chopeniana”, “Scheheeresada” and “Firebird”.

Performances in Washington are the final part of the Mariinski tour. From October 2 to 7, the Mariinsky ballet showed seven performances of the Swan Lake on the stage of Segersstrazt Center in Costa-Mesta in California. And from October 10 to 14, the ballet troupe performed with six performances of the Swan Lake on the stage of Zelerbach-Hall in Berkeley.
