The country of "Yandex" against the country of Gazprom

At once, a dozen Yandex managers became millionaires overnight, selling stakes that received the company's option program. Two of them - the editor -in -chief of Yandex Elena Kolmanovskaya and the head of the development department Alexei Mazurov - and received more than $ 10 million for shares. In general, private business and rather modest news from the world of business.

Optional programs operate in so many companies for a long time (in the same Yandex since 2007) - ordinary practice. And if the company is successful and dynamically developing, it is quite logical that its managers become millionaires. Such a kind of capitalist recognition of labor success. In the field of communications and other innovations of history, when hunger strikes from the garage in sneakers and jeans became multimillionaires, they are calculated in dozens.

Almost any successful project - among the most famous Microsoft, Facebook, Instagram - made several managers millionaires. About Instagram was generally a magical success story, when a young girl marketer could not get a well -known company and, almost desperate, got a job in a small startup Instagram. After a couple of months, her small option cost $ 20 million.

In this sense, Yandex is such a domestic Microsoft or Facebook, and you should not be surprised that Western corporate practices and we bring about the same dividends as theirs.
Do not be surprised or even fear of one (as the authors of the Runet Today report) that the company is registered in the Netherlands. The business of Yandex is already a supranational level, and global companies (and even more so IT companies) are registered and sitting where there are best conditions for them and/or where the shareholders will be clearer.

The other project, which its founder and main shareholder Arkady Volozh almost sold in the late 90s for 20, it seems, thousands of dollars, now brings millions of dollars to its managers and a net profit of hundreds of millions of dollars (almost 180 million dollars in 2011). Literally gold, obtained, as it were, from nothing - than not Facebook and what not Zuckerberg with his team.

Not so long ago, in the radio, in discussion with an American colleague working in Moscow for many years, the topic surfaced: how “they” differ from “us”. And he just brought an argument that, they say, the state presses a private initiative, corruption, hands with enterprising people are lowered, and therefore there is no Facebook and Zuckerberg in Russia. It became a shame for the state and the counterargument was urgently required. The counterargument was found right there. "But what about Volozh?" - I was indignant.

Yes, the state strangles and presses a private initiative, puts a crazy number of barriers and it is corrupted by everyone who can somehow corrupt. Yes, the list of professions most prestigious in the youth does not appear innovative and in general their own business, but bureaucratic positions and work in large oil and gas companies and state banks are mentioned. But we also have Yandex, and therefore one who wants and who has potential will be able to get through all sorts of troubles of Russian reality.

It is worth making a reservation - in many ways, Yandex remains an atypical example for Russian large and medium -sized businesses. Russia still has been and remains a country with mainly raw materials of large business. In addition, almost all major conditions in Russia were acquired as a result of various privatization processes - that is, not entirely legitimate from the point of view of a significant part of citizens. Examples of creating a company worth several billion dollars without any dubious schemes, from scratch and without the participation of the distribution of previously created assets - this seems to have almost never happened in Russia over the past two decades.

Therefore, probably, property is illegitimate and is conditional in nature, in the opinion that ordinary citizens, that the authorities, that their owners themselves. “I got it just like that” means there is no right to it, and the point here is not in any “mentality”, but in considerations based on common sense. Not you did - not yours.

The creators of Yandex for this is more difficult to reproach this - they themselves did, they did not take anyone wealth. Therefore, they seem to have nothing to present to them. Apparently, if private ownership in Russia and legitimate in the eyes of all major states is the future, then it is behind conditional “new Yandex”. Russia then all will become the "country of Yandex", and not the country of "Yukosov and Gazprom."
