Over the past 10 months, a lot has been said (including by the author of this post) that Moscow liberal leaders leaked the protest and made it “ivy”, safe for the authorities. And for many, it has long become extremely clear that the Moscow protest was heading “somewhere in the wrong direction.” A fundamentally different situation has developed in Nizhny Novgorod. Despite the obstinacy of the local authorities, Nizhny Novgorod oppositionists time after time went out to uncoordinated protests, not agreeing to slavish compromises. We were the first to raise socio-economic demands along with political ones to the banners and began to take to the streets with them.
It is no coincidence that I am being fussy here about the merits of the Nizhny Novgorod opposition. On November 4, the city will host an interregional action - the Nizhny Novgorod Civil March: March of the Regions (route: k/t "October" - Minin Square). As you might guess, it is timed, on the one hand, to coincide with the 400th anniversary of the expulsion of impostors from the Kremlin by the Nizhny Novgorod militia; on the other hand, for the visit of Putin and Patriarch Kirill, who will be present in the city on this day (I would like to arrange a decent reception). Considering the first and especially the second, the procession and rally will clearly not be coordinated. We, however, are not the first, as has already been noted. And if this action is supported by citizens from neighboring regions, the action promises to become a significant event in the history of our protest. It will be interesting, trashy and truly oppositional. Promotion requirements:
To the Nizhny Novgorod administration:
- Establish direct elections of the governor, mayors and district heads!
- Reduce fares for urban and suburban transport, cancel the humiliating limit of 39 trips for beneficiaries!
- Reduce unreasonable utility tariffs!
- Ensure the possibility of civilian control over the work of officials and the expenditure of the budget!
- Stop the destruction of architectural monuments, squares and parks!
- Stop infill development and urban planning projects that have not received the support of Nizhny Novgorod residents!
- Stop the transformation of the Green City into the Nizhny Novgorod “Rublevka”!
- Ensure freedom of assembly! Hands off the protesters!
- Shantseva - resign!
Federal requirements:
- Freedom for political prisoners! Stop political repression!
- Re-elect illegal authorities in free and fair elections!
- Reduce federal taxes! Less funds for Moscow, more for the regions!
- Income from raw material exports - to the people!
- Start the formation of an independent judicial system with the dissolution of the Constitutional and Supreme Courts of the Russian Federation!
- Cancel “filters” in gubernatorial elections!
- Stop ethnic crime and illegal migration!
- Ensure freedom of trade union activity and the right to strike!
- Refuse to increase the level of the reservoir of the Cheboksary hydroelectric station!
Let me note right away that the action has nothing to do with the Russian March. I have already received comments in the spirit of: “how can the left take to the streets on November 4th? The date is bad! To me, these are empty prejudices. It is clear that the “Left Front” and a number of others are quite friendly towards the Poles, whose ancestors happened to become interventionists during the distant Time of Troubles. Another thing is important - in 1612 the usurpers of power were expelled - and it does not matter what nationality they were. As for me, it’s very symbolic.
