The European Parliament voted for the "list of Magnitsky"

The European Parliament recommends that the EU advice introduce visa and financial sanctions on the "Magnitsky list". According to the press service of the EP, the corresponding resolution was adopted at a plenary meeting in Strasbourg on Tuesday evening.

It is proposed to ban the entrance to the EU and freeze the banking assets of Russian officials involved in the death of lawyer Sergei Magnitsky in the pre -trial detention center. The EU Council will be expected to consider this recommendation before the end of this year.

“Despite the promises of President Medvedev, to shed light on Magnitsky’s business, justice has not yet happened,” said the Estonian deputy Christina Ouland, who presented the draft resolution. “The court session again demonstrated too modest progress last week - out of 60 people involved in his death, only two prison doctors are accused of negligence.” In September, the hearing in the case of the only accused of the death of Magnitsky, the former deputy chief of the Butyrka pre -trial detention center, Dmitry Kratov, began.

As Ouland emphasized in her report, the death of Magnitsky is not an isolated case. The European Parliament advocates the introduction of similar lists in other cases of violation of human rights.

The Euro-deputies consider the "List of Magnitsky" as a means of political pressure on the Russian authorities, the parliamentary press service notes. The purpose of the resolution is to fight the atmosphere of impunity, corruption and the use of the judicial system for political purposes.

The Permanent Representative of Russia under the EU Vladimir Chizhov stated that the adoption of the Magnitsky list will negatively affect the relations of Russia and the EU. At the same time, the ambassador expressed confidence that when making a decision by the European Union, "his prudence will prevail."
