A release of ethylbenzene was noted in one of the cities of the Irkutsk region
In Angarsk (Irkutsk region), an excess of the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) of ethylbenzene, which is a raw material for chemical production, was detected, the press service of the Angarsk district administration reported on Thursday.
“The administration received a signal that the maximum permissible concentration of ethylbenzene was exceeded in two points of Angarsk: in the 8th quarter by 3 times, in the 89th quarter by 2 times. An accredited laboratory took air samples, as a result an official protocol was received, where increased MPC values appear,” the message says.
Information about the release of harmful substances was sent to all supervisory services, in particular, to the territorial department of Rospotrebnadzor.
“At the moment, the relevant services are conducting an administrative investigation. The source and cause of the release are being established. Within a month, the perpetrators will be named and given appropriate punishment,” the press service notes.
Ethylbenzene is a chemical that is a raw material for the production of styrene.
“Ethylbenzene causes an allergic reaction. A single release will not cause harm to health, but such facts cannot be ignored,” the message emphasizes.
The fact that the maximum permissible concentration was exceeded was recorded through monitoring of atmospheric air quality, which is carried out in Angarsk as part of the municipal environmental protection program.
