The Vedomosti newspaper will switch from A2 to A3 format from January 2013, and the number of notebooks in it will be reduced from two to one. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the editor-in-chief of the publication Tatyana Lysova.

Thus, the size of the newspaper sheet will be reduced by approximately half. Due to this, the number of pages will increase from 12 to 24, and each current single-page section will turn into a spread. The design of the publication will remain the same.

According to Lysova, the transition to a more compact format is a global trend in the newspaper business. “If you look at Western publications, there are practically no outdated large-format newspapers left, simply because they are inconvenient, they are too large, and readers have long been asking for a more convenient format so that they can be read both in public transport and easier to unfold in a car,” - explained the editor-in-chief.

Tatyana Lysova added that in global experience, the transition of newspapers to A3 format leads to an increase in readership and an increase in the number of subscribers. The journalist added that she considers talk about the death of print media to be a myth, and noted that this is why Vedomosti is trying to maintain and expand its audience.

The business newspaper Vedomosti has been published since 1999 and is published by Sanoma Independent Media in collaboration with the English edition of the Financial Times and the American The Wall Street Journal. The staff of Vedomosti and the website vedomosti.ru is about 100 people. The newspaper has a circulation of 75 thousand copies. Since 2008, the publication began to be printed in color.
